Bronchogenic cysts

DA: 868

Developmental anomaly information

Definition: Bronchogenic cysts are part of a spectrum of congenital abnormalities of the lung, including pulmonary sequestration, congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation, and congenital lobar hyperinflation (emphysema). Bronchogenic cysts and esophageal duplications are usually considered as separate foregut malformations. Yet, both are thought to arise from the same embryological event, division of the embryonic foregut(Bronchopulmonary foregut),and they share common histological characteristics, often making their clinical differentiation difficult.
