Atrioventricular - channel

DA: 240

Developmental anomaly information

Definition: An AV - channel as a septal defect involving the AV - valves. It exists where the wall between the upper chambers joins the wall between the lower chambers. Also, the tricuspid and mitral valves that normally separate the heart's upper and lower chambers aren't formed as individual valves. Instead, a single large valve forms that crosses the defect (a common AV - valve). A big amount of oxygen saturated blood flows from the left to the right heart and then through the lungs.
