Cardiomegaly, fetal

DA: 113

Developmental anomaly information

Definition: Cardiomegaly is the increased heart area/chest area ratio when heart length, width, area, cardiothoracic ratio, heart/thoracic area (CTA) ratio are > 2 SD. Among the heterogeneous etiology of marked fetal cardiomegaly ( Ebstein's anomalies, tricuspid valve dysplasias, dilatative cardiomyopathies and ..) a holosystolic tricuspid regurgitation with right atrial enlargement is a common pathogenetic feature. Cardiomegaly may contribute to the risk of fetal death in macrosomic infants and infants of diabetic mothers.

Developmental anomaly parent: Congenital Heart Defects

Topology: Human body > Thorax > Mediastinum > Heart and great vessels > Heart

System: Human body > Cardiovascular system > Heart

Developmental anomaly category: Anomalies of size (cell, tissue, or organ).
