Developmental anomaly categoryinformation for Disruption

Description: A disruption is a morphologic defect of an organ, part of an organ, or a larger region of the body resulting from the extrinsic breakdown of, or an interference with, an originally normal developmental process. By definition, a disruption cannot be inherited; however, inherited factors can predispose to and influence the development of a disruption. In contrast to a malformation, the developemental potential of the involved organ was originally normal. Secondarily, an extrinsic factor such as an infection, teratogen, or trauma interfered with the developement which thereafter proceeded abnormally.

[description] => Fetal akinesia (ie, decreased fetal movements) is due to fetal abnormalities (eg, neurogenic, muscle, or connective tissue abnormalities; mechanical limitations to movement) or maternal disorders (eg, infection, drugs, trauma, other maternal illnesses). Generalized fetal akinesia can also lead to polyhydramnios, pulmonary hypoplasia, micrognathia, ocular hypertelorism, and short umbilical cord.
