Meckel diverticulum

Developmental anomaly information

Definition: Meckel's diverticulum is a vestigial remnant of the omphalomesenteric duct (also called the vitelline duct), and is the most frequent malformation of the gastrointestinal tract. It is is located in the distal ileum, usually within about 60-100 cm of the ileocecal valve.
